Hearts In The Himalayas Wins Four Awards
Himalayan HealthCare, a non profit humanitarian organization, has announced the film showcasing their work, Hearts In The Himalayas is the recipient of four 2012 Omni Awards. The Omni Intermedia Awards are designed to recognize and commend the accomplishments of outstanding media production in a variety of fields. Caring For The World Films, which produced the film, was awarded two Silver Omni awards in the categories of Documentary and Public Service Media. The film’s director, Debi Lang received two Bronze Omni awards in the categories of Directing and Cinematography.

Hearts In The Himalayas showcases the humanitarian mission of Himalayan HealthCare and the efforts of its driven and dedicated volunteers to provide medical care, education, and income generation opportunities to the mostly forgotten people who live in the remote foothills of the Ganesh-Himal mountain range in Nepal. The film was shot on location over a two-year period, which took the international team on Everest-size medical treks to the remote villages the organization serves.

HHC board president Robert McKersie, M.D. said the organization is very pleased with the film and added, "We are excited that Caring For The World Films has been recognized for its hard work and are extremely honored that Himalayan HealthCare was selected by them to be showcased in the film.”

Director Debi Lang emphasized the importance of presenting the documentary from the Nepalese perspective. Nothing was staged or scripted. Lang hired and trained the local villagers to participate on the film crew. Dozens of Nepalis in the United States and Nepal spent over six months translating the interviews. “It was a project in the works for three years and without the help of the Nepalese people, it never would have been completed” Lang said. "We are honored Hearts In The Himalayas has been recognized by our peers within the film industry and owe much gratitude to the folks at Himalayan HealthCare who trusted us to tell their story and the Nepalese who helped us.” In 2011, Caring For The World Films received two Omni Awards for Road To San Marcos and Return To San Marcos.

About The Omni Intermedia Awards:

The Omni Awards were created to reward outstanding media productions that engage, empower and enlighten. With an Omni Award comes the distinction of being chosen by professionals as an example of excellence. It allows others to recognize the company's level of success and professionalism. Thousands of entries are submitted from all over the country and winners are chosen from over 30 categories through a rigorous judging process.

The professionals on the Omni Awards judging panel independently judge all entries based on a strict set of criteria for each specific media type. The criteria include programming, graphics, functionality, media presentation/quality, creativity and impact. After the entries are judged, the judge’s scores are averaged together to attain the final score. Only the elite entrants are honored with Gold, Silver, or Bronze awards.

All net proceeds from the handicraft sales are used to fund primary health care, medical and educational projects, giving to those involved in the production process a sense of pride that comes by helping and sustaining many others, in even greater need than themselves. Jeevankala
